Pearl

Privacy Policy

Effective September 15, 2026

Pearl is a personal shopping companion: a Safari extension and app that watch the shopping pages you browse and surface the pieces that match your taste. Pearl is operated by Great Island Holdings LLC (“we” in this policy). This policy explains what Pearl collects, why, and the choices you have. We collect only what the app needs to work: we don’t track you for advertising, we don’t sell your data, and we ask before your words go to any AI service.

What we collect

Browsing history (shopping pages only). When the extension is on, Pearl reads the product pages you visit to find your matches and records their URLs. It only acts on shopping pages. It does not track your unrelated browsing.

An anonymous identifier. Pearl assigns your device an anonymous user ID so your likes, saves, and preferences stay yours across sessions. It isn’t tied to your real-world identity unless you add an email.

Your email (only if you sign in). If you choose to sign in, we send a one-time code to your email and store the address to keep your account. Sign-in is optional.

Product interactions. The saves, likes and dislikes (“verdicts”), and taps you make in Pearl, so the feed can learn what you like.

Your asks. The words you type or speak when you ask Pearl for something. Kept up to 90 days after you last use them, and deleted immediately with your account.

Profile details (only if you set them). Sizes and a price range you add, so Pearl can flag pieces that fit you and your budget.

Bug reports. Only when you shake to report a problem: a short note you write, a screenshot of the Pearl screen you were on, and basic technical details (app version, device type).

Crash & performance data. Standard diagnostics (what crashed, how long a screen took to load), tied to your anonymous ID.

When you ask Pearl in words (AI)

When you type or speak an ask, Pearl may send the words you typed, and the filters on your ask, to an outside AI service that helps understand it. The providers Pearl may use for this are Google Gemini, Amazon Nova, and OpenAI, reached through Vercel’s AI Gateway. That request never carries your name, email, or anything else about you: only your ask’s words and filters. The gateway may briefly cache a request for up to 24 hours to serve a repeated ask faster; it is not used to build a profile of you.

Pearl asks your permission the first time this would happen, before anything is sent. If you say no, Pearl keeps working. You can keep browsing everything, and you can still set filters by hand. Simple asks Pearl already understands may still work without a model. New interpretation of your words needs your permission. Saying no doesn’t turn anything else off, and Pearl will ask again the next time you try a words-based ask.

How we use it

Everything above is used to provide the app’s functionality: to capture the products you browse, personalize your feed to your taste, understand what you ask for, and keep your likes in sync. We do not use it for cross-app or cross-site tracking, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Retailer & brand content

Pearl displays product information, images, and prices from third-party retailers and brands, and links out to their sites. Those sites are governed by their own privacy policies; this policy covers only Pearl.

Services that help us run Pearl

Supabase hosts your account and Pearl’s database.

Vercel hosts Pearl’s web app and API, and routes the AI requests described above through its AI Gateway.

Google Gemini, Amazon Nova, and OpenAI may read your ask’s words to help Pearl understand it, as described above.

Datadog receives crash reports, performance, and usage logs, tied to your anonymous ID.

PostHog measures how Pearl is used — pages visited and buttons tapped — and records browsing sessions so we can fix what’s confusing. Sign-in codes and email addresses are always masked before anything leaves your browser; what you type while shopping — your searches — may appear in recordings, tied to your account’s anonymous ID.

Linear receives the bug reports and screenshots you choose to send us.

Resend delivers the sign-in code emails you request.

These services process your data only to run Pearl. None of them may sell it or use it for advertising.

Deleting your account

Open Pearl, go to Profile, and tap Delete account (or Delete my data if you’re browsing anonymously), then confirm. This works whether you’ve signed in or not, and it’s immediate and permanent: your verdicts, saves, asks, sizes, and history are all gone.

What remains: any bug report you sent us stays as a support record unless you separately ask us to remove it; crash/performance telemetry under your anonymous ID ages out with its normal retention window; and short-lived encrypted database backups expire automatically on their own schedule.

Your other choices

Your browser controls which websites the extension can read. You can change its site access, or turn the extension off, at any time in your browser’s settings.

If Pearl changes hands

If Pearl is ever acquired by or merges with another company, your data may transfer as part of that transaction. It stays covered by this policy, and any change in practices will show up on this page.

Children

Pearl is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes

If we change these practices we’ll update this page and revise the effective date above.
